I could rant on forever about how great Powerhouse was and how it's a shame many of you missed them but I won't... just go download the thing on the MEDIA page! Everyone (except everybody else) was ecstatic when GWAR put out “Violence Has Arrived” in 2001—it marked GWAR’s triumphant return to metal, and the world breathed a collective sigh of relief that we hadn’t put out another “We Kill Everything”, no matter how much they might have enjoyed having sex with animals! Ecstasy turned to unbridled glee when GWAR put out “War Party” in 2004, because it was obvious to all that GWAR was going to keep it heavy. “War Party” led to the best year in GWAR’s blood-soaked history—people were forced to accept the fact that not only did GWAR put on the greatest show on this or any other planet, but they were also a musical force to be reckoned with. Some 240+ shows later, GWAR returned to the frozen waste of Antarctica with a 9-ton crack boulder, ready to plan the next phase in their never-ending yet ultimately futile campaign to destroy the planet and escape earth once and for all. Well, the crack boulder is down to a mere half-ton, so it is time—time for GWAR to return to realms of man with a new album, show, and all kinds of other cool shit to appease your lust for all things GWAR. So here is a brief explanation of what to expect and look forward to in what is shaping up to be the biggest and sickest chapter in GWAR’s crummy career of complete chaos.

First up, GWAR and Slave Pit are as pleased as a pimply porcupine to announce that none other than the incredible Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad, producer of about a million killer bands) will be co-producing the new GWAR record, tentatively entitled “Go to Hell!”. The bulk of the material is already completed, and recording at Flattus/Cory’s Karma Studio’s begins in early April. Then Oderus and Flattus will travel to the semi-frozen wasteland of Vancouver (in the bat-shaped helicopter, of course), to mix and master what is without a doubt going to be the heaviest album in GWAR’s discography. To ensure this every album will come with a large brick, that fans are encouraged to throw at someone. The concept of the album is the closest thing to a rock opera that GWAR has done since “Ragnarok”, and concerns GWAR’s epic journey into the tunnels and caverns that honeycomb your world, a journey not only to escape their earthly prison “from within”, but also to find and confront this so-called “Satan”, who seems to think that he is a bigger bad ass than Oderus. Along the way GWAR encounter’s a bevy of demonic dickheads and hapless victims, all ready to die for your entertainment. The album will also have a special “enhanced” section, with incredible behind-the-scenes footage and GWAR knows what else! Look for GWAR’s latest and greatest album yet to hit the stores in September.

If you don’t know already, GWAR is confirmed for this years Sounds of the Underground festival tour. GWAR will once again have the “halftime show” slot, and the line-up is fucking incredible. And the best part? No fucking emo! So look for the dreaded “Golf Cart of Death” on this summer’s coolest festival tour! More or less around that time, Slave Pit and DRT will release a new DVD—titled “Bloodbath and Beyond”, this will be a behind and in front of the scenes history of all things GWAR and Slave Pit, including tons of rare and never-before scenes of consummate carnage. For example, you will witness the glory of “Filthy Chunks”, an unreleased porno movie filmed in the “Scumdogs” era, starring Oderus and the Sexecutioner, and a previously unheard of video for “Poor Old Tom”, directed (poorly) by Oderus Urungus. The DVD will be hosted by Oderus and Sleazy in a completely retarded “Siskel and Ebert” format. Yuks for all, you hump!

And now for something completely different. A man with three buttocks. This one is just silly. Apparently GWAR has been awarded a “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Live Action Role Playing Society. This is a big deal! Tons of cool/famous/creative/completely geeked-out people are a part of this thing, and GWAR will be honored at a huge awards ceremony in Hollywood’s Shrine Theater on April 29th, 2006. But that’s not even the best part—the pre-awards party is going to be held the night before at the Playboy mansion, where GWAR will actually perform 2 songs! Somebody pinch me!

Finally Slave Pit and Shocker Toys are proud to announce the release of a full-line of GWAR action-figures, meticulously crafted in painstaking detail by the very talented people at Shocker Toys. The figures will be released in three sets of three figures, and the schedule is as follows—
1) Oderus, Beefcake, and Techno-Destructo
2) Balsac, Jizmak, and Bozo-Destructo
3) Flattus, Slymenstra, and Sleazy P. Martini

Each set comes with a Slave, various weapons, and whatever instrument the enclosed figure plays (poorly). The first set will debut at this years San Diego Comic Con, with the follow-ups coming out soon after. There will also be a full line of “Shockini” figures. GWAR fans play with dolls!

Other even murkier events and products are lurking just beneath the horizon, so don’t you fret, faithful bohab! It's 10 days later and I'm still amazed at the outpouring of support and condolences from so many people. I suppose I shouldn't be so surprised....but still I am grateful and even proud to hear how much he was loved and respected and especially would love to hear of any memories you had of him. Or maybe you would post to the message boards on the links below.

The following for his bands, Powerhouse and Doomsday Device were legion. World wide. Ernie made an impact on everyone he met and his love of life and friendships were deep and true, something that will live on forever.

He will be missed by many, but by none so much as me.

About the Artist
Powerhouse formed in 1993 with the intent to awaken the Bay Area scene from it's coma. There were no hardcore bands. There were no hardcore shows. There was no scene and you would be hard-pressed to find a kid who actually claimed to like hardcore. The Green Day phenomenon had kids dying their hair green and swaying to the accessible sounds of MTV pop punk. Powerhouse reacted by unleashing a tenacious sonic assault that would forever change the landscape of the Northern California music scene. They brought back the ideals, styles, and musical sensibilities of old school New York hardcore for a generation of kids that didn't even know who Agnostic Front and Warzone were. Powerhouse, with bands like Second Coming and Redemption 87, were on a mission. They had faith in hardcore when the rest of the world was recovering from their grunge hangovers with a big bowl of stale three-chord punk. Slowly, the scene grew.

More shows became available. More bands began to form. A greater interest was taken in hardcore by the kids of the Bay Area. Now, hardcore in Northern California is stronger than it has ever been. It has flourished in a way that nobody could have predicted. It's strong, stable, and constantly progressing. And the foundation that this new scene stands proudly upon was built by Powerhouse.

The line-up has had some changes over the years, but is now as solid as oak. Chris Hower, originally from New Jersey, handles the vocal duties. Ernie Cortez, the godfather of OBHC (Oakland Brand Hardcore), provides the thundering bass lines. "Machete" Eddie Medina riffs with rage on the six strings. And Walter Ryan, who had been in the legendary hardcore band Madball, pounds the skins with precision and fury.

Powerhouse re-released their debut 7"entitled Pandemonium in the Spring of 2000 on CD EP format with two brand new un-released tracks. The follow up album after Pandemonium was a full length CD LP entitled No Regrets which was released by Blackout Records (home of H20 and Sheer Terror). Now, Powerhouse returns to Resurrection AD Records for their much-anticipated second album that is due out in 2001. They have also been featured on numerous compilations, serving as ambassadors of California to the worldwide hardcore community

Powerhouse has garnered respect from all corners of the world. They claim fans and friends from such important bands as Agnostic Front, Murphy's Law, Madball, Skarhead, and 25 ta Life. They have shared the stage with those integral bands and hundreds more.

In addition to the music, Powerhouse has become a multi-faceted consortium to the kids of the Bay Area. The band opened their own all-ages club, called the Bombshelter, and even operates their own tattoo shop called Sacred Tattoo. The tattoo shop has become so successful that they have opened up shop in Fresno and Seattle. The term "a force to reckon with" seems to have been coined with Powerhouse in mind. They will persevere. They will continue to push the scene to it's full potential. Hardcore in Northern California is a machine and Powerhouse is it's engine.

GOD FUCKING DAM XM RADIO DROPS XMLM!!!

I am SO god dam pissed right now XM radio decided to just drop my favorite station for over air broadcast to make room for baseball coverage! I am so pissed because I listen to XMLM Liquid Metal (XM 42) which was the metal station. No other station plays anything at all similar to metal, the only solution they came up with was providing a 3 hour show on Squizz now from 12-3. I’m pissed because I just got a new Delphi Myfi unit too and was really happy with this unit.

When I called up the call center they immediately knew what I was pissed about and when I told they I wanted my service canceled they gave me a 1 month credit on both my radios. They told me they don’t seem to be sure what is going on, and they way the person responded they are getting allot of complaints. They told me wait the month before I cancel, and that if they don’t correct the situation then I can call back and cancel the service.

So far this is the letter I plan on writing them…

When XM radio first came out I was very excited about the idea of the concept. The ability to tune in to a big variety of music at any point. It was a refreshing change from mainstream radio where every station played basically the same music over and over again among countless commercials. XM changed that by allowing you to tune in to a grate variety of music at the push of a button.

I am Very disappointed in the recent decision to take XMLM (Liquid Metal) off broadcast, and made an exclusively online only station. This was my favorite station and the #1 reason I have a subscription to XM radio, There is a complete lack of Metal stations available over conventional broadcast.

Having a “online” stream for metal is completely useless for me since I primarily listen to music in my car during my commute. At home I can listen to metal through my local cable company which provides a metal station as part of there basic subscription. Having been very happy with XM service I even upgraded to a Delphi Myfi personal radio receiver from the original Delphi Skyfi unit, and was even considering getting an additional XM Polk XM home Receiver to listen to XM radio in my house and dropping my cable TV service altogether. I very rarely watch TV but I always listen to music. I was even getting excided of the prospect of XM radios instant traffic data network and the prospect of XM radio offering a service to work with GPS head unit to provide detailed maps of current traffic conditions and instant route updates.

Working at Circuit City I have had nothing but good things to say about XM radio, raving about having better content, and better hardware, and better sound then Sirius radio. This recent decision is enough to sway my opinion in favor of Sirius. If this is a sign of where XM radio is headed, towards only providing the most popular music in favor of wide variety, I will put my 100% support behind Sirius who has maintained an interest in a variety of programming.

I have enjoyed XM radio for the last few years, but am disappointed in it’s recent change of direction. When I contacted listener care I could not get a straight answer on what was going on with XMLM, but as soon as I made a call the representative knew my complaint was going to be over the dropping of XMLM from broadcast. The representative did give me 1 month credit on both of my XM radio units, and that is how much time I will give XM radio to reconsider there decision to drop XMLM. At that point I will be discontinuing my service, and I will be looking elsewhere for my in car entertainment. ..................................................................................................

Everyone do me a favor and write XM a letter over this. I will do exactly what I said, If LM is not back on broadcast I will be looking into Sirius…

So how is metal on Sirius do they still have it or are the planning on dropping this soon too ?

Seattle Metal Fest Postponed!

Seattle Metal Fest Postponed!

Due to circumstances beyond our control the Seattle Metal Fest has been postponed until December 4th, 2004.The venue hosting the event, Studio Seven reports that the building in which the show was to take place has been temporarily closed by the fire department and should open again next week.

Cessation Of Life received the phone call yesterday afternoon, only 24 hours before they were set to leave Los Angeles to drive up to Washington State.

Cessation Of Life was set to play Webers Place in the San Fernando Valley, (Los Angeles) California December 3rd. That show will be rescheduled for a yet undetermined date in order to make it to Seattle for the Metal Fest December 4th. Cessation Of Life want to thank Mark our Promoter of the Webers show for his understanding in the matter.

To the Metal Fans In Seattle:

First thank you for your support and e-mails about looking forward to this show. Cessation Of Life will be on the bill December 3rd and look forward to Thrashing it up with you all then. We will have that ESP EX-50 Electric Guitar with us and will raffle it off then.
